She studied agriculture at the University of Kassel/Witzenhausen. During her studies she became familiar with the subject agrobiodiversity. Her thesis was on in situ conservation of plant genetic resources. Since 1996 she is working with the Information Centre for Biological Diversity (IBV, former Information Centre for Genetic Resources) in Bonn. Her focus is on the policy and legal framework for the conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources. Her special interest is the on farm management of plant genetic resources. For the moment she is at home to take care of her daughter Selia. She is a member of the German Network for the Conservation and Recultivation of Crop Diversity (KERN), the Association for the Conservation of Crop Diversity (VEN), and the Society for the Conservation of Old and Endangered Breeds of Farm Animals e.V. (GEH).
