<jsivanov@ptt.rs> Sergej Ivanov was born on 1975 in Dimitrovgrad, Serbia. He is a doctor of veterinary medicine, graduated in Veterinary Faculty of Belgrade University. He finished Environmental Specialization Course at the Alternative Academic Educational Network in 2000. After returning from the university in 2000 he established together with his colleagues Nature Society "Natura Balkanika" one of the pioneers in agrobiodiversity protection in Central Serbia. He was a member of Dimitrovgrad Local Parliament and vice president of Dimitrovgrad Municipality Board from 2000 to 2001. He was engaged in implementation of the Stara Planina cross border project implemented by the Regional Environmental Center from 2003 to 2005. From 2006 to 2008 he was engaged in preparation of the Serbian In-situ Agrobiodiversity Project, today Serbian Transitional Agriculture Reform Project (STAR Project). After 2008 he was engaged by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management as a GEF Technical Support Team Leader managing STAR project activities in field of agrobiodiversity conservation and improvement of management of Stara Planina Nature Park natural resources. In 2005 he discovered flock of Karakachan Sheep in South East Serbia which was officially considered as extinct breed in Serbia after the WW II. In 2008 he coordinated activities of identifying Pirot Zackel Sheep in Serbia. He was one of the founders of Serbian Association of Rare Breeds Breeders. He was managing small family farm in Kamenica village breeding Karakachan Sheep, Balkan Donkey, Busha Cattle and Balkan Goat from 2004 to 2008. He is married with Jovanka, and father of Rados and Angel.
