<ligda@agro.auth.gr> Born in Thessaloniki, Greece. Studies in Agronomy in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Doctor of Agricultural Sciences. For several years member of the Animal Genetics Research Group of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2001 researcher in the National Agricultural Research Foundation in Greece. She has taken part in several research projects, national and EU funded, regarding the genetic diversity of sheep, goats, cattle and buffaloes. Member of the management group of the Greek branch of the Mediterranean Network on buffaloes and member of the Sheep and Goats Genetic Resources FAO-CIHEAM Network. She is a collaborating scientist of the Greek Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources and has taken active part in the investigation of autochthonous cattle breeds in Greece. Member of the management group of the project for the implementation of integrated farming in sheep farms in the region of Epirus (GR). She is member of the working groups in a number of research projects funded by the European Regional Focal Point (ERFP) and participated in several national and international symposia related to the AnGR, funded by FAO and other national or international organizations. She collaborates with several Universities and Research Institutes in the Balkan region and Cyprus in the field of AnGR. Recent work is concentrated in the development of conservation schemes of small populations, database development and application of information technology, studies on genetic diversity of livestock populations.
