Born 1941. Assoc.Professor at the Slovak Agricultural University of Nitra, Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding. Courses oriented on Biosafety, Biodiversity and Food Safety. In 1974 obtained PhD. degree in Biochemistry, in 1989 the highest scientific degree of DSc. in Microbiology. Since 1992 Director of the Institute of Microbiology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava (up to 2000). In 1997 appointed as a Head of the Slovak Committee for Convention of Biological Diversity. In years 1996-2000 represented Slovakia at the UNEP in negotiations of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. Research activities oriented on microbial-plant interactions, conservation of old and traditional plant varieties and traditional technologies revitalization. Engaged in several national and international research and development projects (FAO, UNDP). Published nearly 100 scientific papers and several books. Board member of Slovak NGO "Agro-Genofond", partner of SAVE Foundation.
